DuraCeramica Knives

If you are new to the world of ceramic knives (like me) you might be surprised to learn that they are actually harder than steel, rating 8.5 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness compared to 6 to 6.5 for hardened steel. Designed to appeal to a younger demographic of chefs, these colorful new pieces were recently introduced by Hampton Forge during the New York Tabletop Show.

Available in 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 piece combination sets, the DuraCeramica collection features soft ABS plastic handles with an anti-slip coating and a high quality, ultra-strong ceramic blade that is protected by a color coordinated blade guard. The collection includes a 6” chef knife, 5″ santoku knife in mint green, a 5” utility knife in lemon yellow, and a 4” parer knife in citrus orange. I was surprised by how lightweight these knives felt and how incredibly sharp the blade looked. I also knew how tempted my children would be to touch them (I don’t think the company wanted that young of a demographic) so be extra careful if you are using them around the kids in the kitchen. Prices start at $14.99 MSRP for the paring knife and go up to $24.99 MSRP for the chef knife.
