Designed by Brazilian fashion designer Andreia Chaves, The Invisible Shoe was launched last February during Fashion Week in New York. The shoe comes in two versions: a laser-cut mirrored-facade shell that uses its reflective surfaces as a means of camouflage, and a see-through “Naked” version that says to everyone: “My shoes are so damn hot, they have to be in a cage.” I prefer the cage version; the mirrorball shoes are a bit too much like something Lady Gaga would wear to the supermarket. Created with laser-sintered nylon via a 3D printing technique from the Dutch company Freedom of Creation, the shoes are expensive haute couture pieces (about $4300 for the mirrored shoe and $2600 for the “Naked” version). Shoes are produced on request — for customers out of Asia, they can be ordered directly from the designer’s studio at info@andreiachaves.com.
