The Clutch Clip

Pratt Institute student designer Jeff Rubio took home first place at the 7th Annual Umbra| Pratt Design Competition for his design of the Clutch Clip, an ornate laser-cut acrylic clip that can be used to cinch together bags or bind paper. I imagine students of all ages will want to dress up their brown paper bag lunches or gift bags with these elegant little clips. If the Clutch Clip and the other competition finalists meet Umbra’s criteria of quality and affordability, they will be given the opportunity to work with the manufacturer’s team to create a prototype which may then be manufactured and included in Umbra’s catalog (earning royalties for the students and Pratt). I hope to see Rubio’s design on the market soon — it’s a clever spin on a utilitarian product that needed a bit of flair.
