The bright colors, shapes, and patterns of the aptly named Happiland collection from Portland, Maine-based angela adams (the company), are inspired by the abstract paintings of Angela Adams (the designer). Happiland includes a matching set of cards, trays, rugs, glasses, and soaps that easily mix and match for a gift for a housewarming or other occasion. The recycled-content paper letterpress cards, created in collaboration with Egg Press of Portland, Oregon, include a set of six different designs. The other items include dishwasher-safe birch veneer trays (made in Sweden), U.S.-made dishwasher-safe frosted glasses, and organic soaps (including Aloe Lemongrass, Lucky Lavender, and four other scents) made in Maine. The 34.5” x 24.25” Mini Hand-Woven rugs are responsibly handmade in India by skilled artisans of 100% New Zealand Wool. A portion of the proceeds from every rug sale is donated back to the community where it was manufactured — a policy that can help make everyone a bit happier.
Designers Trevor Coghill and Nathan Lee of the Vancouver-based design firm Contexture Design have introduced a new line of modern, eco-friendly products made of recycled and reclaimed materials. The new line includes the Pollen Nation mobile that is laser-cut from recycled paper and salvaged agriculture maps, a toy glider inspired by ’50s era balsa wood gliders, a “Mapbook” notebook, and Cutout Cards. Although it’s not brand new, one of my favorite items from the collection is the Coffee Cuff. This helpful little accessory can go from arm candy to coffee sleeve in an instant, and is handmade from reclaimed architectural veneer offcuts.
