Folded Leaf cell phone

This new mobile phone design for the Chinese telecom company Huawei is designed by the Swedish multi-disciplinary firm Claesson Koivisto Rune. The phone has a slightly round shape that is supposed to “compliment the natural curve between ear and mouth”, according to the press release, while allowing it to have a more comfortable grip in the palm of your hand. It seems so strange to me that we don’t expect cell phones to be comfortable to use as a natural aspect of their design. Why should you feel like you are calling someone from a box of playing cards? (iPhone, yes, I’m talking to you and your mute-button-happy self). While I don’t want to carry 10 devices on me, I wouldn’t mind carrying a phone and a PDA if the phone itself was truly a pleasure to use. Would you?
