Woolsey Shuffleboard Table

I’m a huge fan of shuffleboard tables, and can spend hours playing against someone else or even myself. Earlier this year, California craftsman Sean Woolsey launched the Woolsey Shuffleboard Table for fans of the puck sliding game. The handcrafted table features a rift sawn white oak top with two coats of UV-resistant epoxy resin for durability. Black walnut is inlaid as the playing lines and numbers to contrast with the white oak and tie in with the solid walnut legs. The gutters are lined with an industrial charcoal gray felt while hidden levelers are concealed under the top and in the legs. The steel-framed table also comes with four white and four black pucks, plenty of shuffleboard “salt” (wax, powder, and sand) and a magnetic wall mount to hold the pucks when not in use. Each table comes in black and white, comes in 10′ to 16′ sizes, and is built-to-order in six to nine weeks. The table is available from Sean Woolsey Studio starting from $10,000. Rollbe Compact Rolling Ruler

Rollbe is a super compact measuring tool around the size of a quarter that comes in a small leather carrying pouch you can slip in your pocket. Does the market really need another ruler? Well, Rollbe has been on Kickstarter for just a few days and has already raised almost $20,000 – far beyond the initial goal of $6351. I’d say there’s a huge market. Designed for both the Metric and Imperial systems, Rollbe’s rolling design allows it to measure both straight lines and curved surfaces by rolling from point to point. It’s handy for home owners, architects, engineers, interior designers, fashion designers, decorators, art students, or anyone who needs to precisely measure irregularly shaped things on a regular basis. Rollbe comes in two versions, the coin-size 4”  ruler and the 8” ruler for more professional use. To use it, you simply place the start mark on the starting point of the surface or line you want to measure, and then roll and count full rotations by following the ”radius indicator”, then add remaining units. …

Paul Smith Edition Three Lamp by Anglepoise

The British lighting brand Anglepoise and renowned British designer Paul Smith have collaborated on a third edition of the Type 75 Desk Lamp that evokes the primary colors of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian’s De Stijl style. The lamp has been launched to coincide with the run up to next year’s De Stijl centennial. The lamp has had quite a history. Designed by Sir Kenneth Grange in 2004, the Type 75 lamp is inspired by a 1970’s version of the Anglepoise Model 90, which was in turn inspired by the Original 1227 design launched in the 1930’s. The lamp features a matte paint or brushed aluminum finish with an aluminum shade and utilizes Anglepoise’s constant tension spring technology. Kickstarter Things: RE.BIN Recycling Bin

Paper bags are so versatile. They can either be the arts and crafts project or the thing you put under the arts and crafts project. They can be reused several times before ripping, are easily recycled, and when folded up properly don’t take up that much space. Unless you go shopping every week, which people tend to do. Then they start accumulating in an unmanageable pile, (which is particularly troublesome in small apartments) and you just want to switch to plastic (but you really don’t). So isn’t it brilliant when someone develops a new way to use up those paper bags while also recycling other garbage as well? Currently raising funds on Kickstarter, RE.BIN is a paper grocery bag shaped bin designed to hold your paper bag as a liner so that you can easily carry out the trash when it’s full. Made in the U.S.A. of 100% recycled plastic, RE.BIN is designed specifically to help save space in smaller, urban apartments. Iittala X Issey Miyake

A few weeks ago I attended a preview for the new Iittala X Issey Miyake Collection at the MoMA Design Store in New York City. The collection, which combines the Finnish craftsmanship of Iittala with the iconic style of fashion designer Issey Miyake, includes high quality ceramic plates, platters, cups, and a tealight candleholder; a glass vase; and textiles including a pleated totebag, a “table flower” in two sizes, napkins, place mats, and cushion covers. A color palette of white, pink, green, gray unites the modern, yet soft pieces. The MoMA Design Store will be exclusively sell the collection through May 2016. Desktop Accessories by Beyond Object

Beyond Object is a design label of the London-based design studio Poetic Lab that creates and distributes “poetic objects” around the world, including desktop objects, accessories, and tableware that are manufactured and crafted in Taiwan. After creating a temporary showroom during Milan Design Week in April, Beyond Object presented their new line of sculptural desktop accessories during the Maison et Objet Americas fair held earlier this month in Miami. One of the stars of the new collection is Cantili, a tape dispenser made of a pair of cantilevered mirror polished concave disks available in gold, cooper, and silver finishes. Penpo is a magnetic desk organizer made of three tubes of different materials, height, and size that have magnetic joints to form playful combinations. Funno is a pencil sharpener machined from a solid block of metal and hand-polished to a mirror finish in various colors. Funno, which also doubles as a paperweight, comes in mirror-polished gold, copper, and silver. Last but not least, Lino is a structured letter opener that has been reduced down to its outline.
