Rollbe Compact Rolling Ruler

Rollbe is a super compact measuring tool around the size of a quarter that comes in a small leather carrying pouch you can slip in your pocket. Does the market really need another ruler? Well, Rollbe has been on Kickstarter for just a few days and has already raised almost $20,000 – far beyond the initial goal of $6351. I’d say there’s a huge market. Designed for both the Metric and Imperial systems, Rollbe’s rolling design allows it to measure both straight lines and curved surfaces by rolling from point to point. It’s handy for home owners, architects, engineers, interior designers, fashion designers, decorators, art students, or anyone who needs to precisely measure irregularly shaped things on a regular basis. Rollbe comes in two versions, the coin-size 4”  ruler and the 8” ruler for more professional use. Paper bags are so versatile. They can either be the arts and crafts project or the thing you put under the arts and crafts project. They can be reused several times before ripping, are easily recycled, and when folded up properly don’t take up that much space. Unless you go shopping every week, which people tend to do. Then they start accumulating in an unmanageable pile, (which is particularly troublesome in small apartments) and you just want to switch to plastic (but you really don’t). So isn’t it brilliant when someone develops a new way to use up those paper bags while also recycling other garbage as well? Currently raising funds on Kickstarter, RE.BIN is a paper grocery bag shaped bin designed to hold your paper bag as a liner so that you can easily carry out the trash when it’s full. Cling Magnetic Clothing Hanger

The Chicago-based designers at HANGDSGN are currently raising funds on kickstarter to create the first-ever detachable hook on a hanger. Using incredibly strong neodynium magnets placed in the center of each hanger, the Cling system takes away the weight and pressure traditional hangers endure over their lifetime. Available in white or black, Cling hangers work with a regular closet and can hold up to two pounds of clothing when clicked into place. While they still have a few weeks left to their fundraising campaign, the designers are currently in talks with a local manufacturer here in the U.S. who also happens to have a base in China. KeyDisk 2 Key Holder

Why exactly do we have to have all of our keys dangling together in one messy jumble anyway? Designers Jacob Flores and Steven Elliot, the founders of KeyDisk Co. in San Francisco, have taken things completely off the chain with their new key storage solution. Constructed from sandblasted and anodized aluminum, KeyDisk 2 is a lightweight, innovative flat keyholder that can hold up to nine keys. Compatible with standard key rings and car remotes, KeyDisk 2 fits into any pocket due to its slim design. The second edition has a hollowed-out design, which makes it more ergonomic and makes finding and drawing out a key easier. With two different screw shapes, the key holder is much simpler for users to assemble. ClickTape Tape Dispenser by Derk Reilink

Dutch designer Derk Reilink has a reason to be in a good mood. Having just exceeded his Kickstarter campaign goal by a thousand euros, Reilink will finally see his dream of bringing his ClickTape tape dispenser concept to market — a process that first began back in 2006 — with production starting at the beginning of August. Retailing for $14 (including the tape) ClickTape has reduced the dispenser to its bare essentials. A flexible plastic ring, made of 12 grams of plastic, allows a role of tape to be easily clicked into the dispenser, eliminating the need of a plastic roller used in traditional tape dispensers. A durable stainless steel blade matches the curvature of the ring shape of the dispenser and a special indent above the blade makes it easy to grab the end of the tape (something that is tricky for young kids and those with disabilities to do). Clug Bike Clip by Hurdler

What I found most interesting about this new bike storage solution by the Vancouver-based design firm Hurdler Studios is not the stripped-down design, but the fact that in addition to selling the product through traditional methods, the manufacturers are pursing a new digital sales model where customers can purchase Clug’s 3D printer-ready digital files to be used on a 3D printer like the Markerbot Replicator 2 that the designers used to design the product.  The Hurdler team, currently raising funds for the product on Kickstarter, has been testing the product for several months to ensure it’s robust enough for everyday use. The Clug system encases two screws concealed within a push-fit cover that mounts to a wall or other surface to hold the bike upright without damaging the bike frame or rims. The small size has an added benefit for renters — you won’t have to worry about damaging walls and forfeiting your security deposit.
