Little did I know when I attended the MoMA Design Store press preview back in January that the face mask and emergency supply kit I spotted on display would become so relevant. The soft and stylish Urban Air Mask from Airinum uses five-layer technology to protect against microscopic airborne particles including pollution, bacteria, and allergens. It’s is available in three sizes. While it is currently not available on the MoMA Design Store site, you can sign up for a waiting list on the Airinum site. If you’ve ever wondered if ostriches really bury their heads in the sand when they are scared, the answer is, sadly, no.  According to the San Diego Zoo, when an ostrich senses danger and can’t run away, it merely flops to the ground and remains still. Kukka Custom Mirror

Designer Rona Meyuchas-Koblenz was commissioned by London-based Kukka Studio to design make-up mirrors for the mid-century Modern interiors of the new Bankside Hotel that opened late last year on London’s South Bank. The mirror is made of CNC-milled premium crystal with a base of Ceasarstone’s Pebble natural rock-inspied design in a cool gray shade with subtle darker accents. 200 mirrors were ordered to finish the 161 rooms which include seven suites. The designer chose Ceasarstone because the company encourages up-cycling offcuts wherever possible. “The offcuts from the kitchen fabrication industry mostly come in smaller sizes, therefore I found it logical to find a new way to use these pieces,” says Koblenz. Since the Ceaserstone base is heavy enough to hold the mirror in place, there is no need for adhesives or mechanical fittings. Tiwal 3 Inflatable Sailboat

You don’t need to have ever stepped foot on a dock to know that sailboats don’t normally fit in the trunk of a car. That’s what makes the TIWAL 3 such a game-changer. Available now at the MoMA Design Store, the TIWAL 3 inflatable sailing dinghy can be packed into two bags for easy transport and storage and assembled in less than 30 minutes. Retailing for $6,195, it’s a much more affordable option than a standard (non-inflatable) sailboat. According to the financial blog mintlife, the cost of a 22-foot-long model would average $20,000. That’s in addition to the mooring costs, which depending on location and footage can run anywhere from several hundred annually up to a thousand dollars per month. “We were absolutely stunned when we came across the TIWAL 3 Inflatable Sailboat,” says Emmanuel Plat, director of merchandising, retail at MoMA. “We were impressed by the ingenuity of the design and the quality of the materials used, not to mention the adjustable sail, which adapts to the wind.” Today, more than 800 Tiwal 3 boats are sailing in more than …

Third Eye Collection by Moooi & Gentle Monster

Dutch design company Moooi and Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster have collaborated on the Third Eye Collection – a new line of sunglasses inspired by ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic drawings and the concept of the third inner eye that represents the vision beyond ordinary sight. The designs of the Moooi x Gentle Monster silhouettes all start with a circular lens at their center and include four styles: Trinity, Divinity, Sincerity, and Infinity, which come in select color options.
