Inflatable soccer balls are hard to maintain in impoverished communities because of the unavailability of air pumps or the deterioration and damage of the tube inside the ball. In response, Japanese design firm Nendo has designed a non-inflatable soccer ball that gives the same kicking sensation as a standard ball. Inspired by the structure of the traditional Japanese woven bamboo ball, the My Football Kit is assembled with three types of components and includes a total of 54 parts. The instructions for assembly are designed like a picture book in easily understood illustrations. Instead of relying on internal air pressure, the ball uses the resilience of its surface material, soft, recycled polypropylene and elastomeric synthetic resin components, to bounce. The material won’t hurt bare feet and is unlikely to develop a sharp fractured surface that might cause injury, even if broken. If a component comes off during play, the interlocking structure ensures the ball will not disassemble. Lyd Water Bottle Automatically Opens When It Touches Your Lips

The Lyd Bottle‘s integrated smart lid opens at the touch of the user’s lips, closing once they’ve finished. The technology, along with Lyd’s 360-degree access design, allows users to enjoy their beverage of choice with a one-handed motion. Lyd’s specialized vacuum flask interior keeps beverages hot or cold for up to eight hours. The bottle comes equipped with wireless charging and charges fully in four hours with a charge lasting for up to two weeks. Should the battery run low, users can still access their drink with a manual click of the lid. The Lyd comes in two sizes: 13 ox. and 17 oz. Boombotix & Globe Introduce World’s First Bluetooth-Enabled Speaker Skateboard

Two new Bluetooth-enabled speaker skateboards from the San Francisco-based audio technology maker Boombotix and the Australian board brand Globe were designed to help eliminate the isolation of skating with headphones and let users more easily share their music with others. The GSB Blazer, a mini cruiser board and GSB Pinner, a long board, are outfitted with a custom wireless speaker module that plays continuously for two hours with a full charge and at full volume. At 70% volume, the music lasts for up to six hours or more. The dust, water, and standard-impact resistant boards were engineered to retain their rigidity, while allowing for the audio components. The boards feature a vibration easing system and a high-impact ABS construction. They charge with a 6′ USB cable and work with any Bluetooth-enabled device. A custom 5W amp with an integrated passive radiator lets users feel the bass as they ride. Dopper Reusable Water Bottle

Dopper founder and CEO Merijn Everaarts felt compelled to develop a new type of reusable water bottle after watching a documentary about the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” that is roughly twice the size of the U.S. After holding a design competition to find the perfect reusable bottle for drinking water, Everaarts selected a design by Delft Univeristy of Technology alumnus Rinke van Remortel. The bottle comes apart to be easily cleaned and features a built-in cup that also doubles as a stand. The original version of the Cradle to Cradle-certified water bottle is made of polyproplyene (for the bottle and the cap), ABS plastic for the white cup, TPE for the sealing rings in the cap and the cup, and Bisphenol A, a plasticizer that may leach from its material and enter the food chain. A steel version of the bottle, which will be available in a few months, replaces the polypropylene with steel and does not contain any Bisphenol A. Designer Jeff Woolf knows the importance of having a helmet on when biking — he nearly smashed his head open on a curb after getting hit by a car. Woolf created the Morpho Helmet after noticing that folks using bike share programs (such as in London) tend not to use helmets because they were too cumbersome to carry around all day. It was a design problem he wanted to fix — he knew if he could create a helmet that could fold flat, then he could save lives. According to the makers of the Morpher Helmet, the number one reason people don’t wear helmets when riding a bike is that the helmet is too bulky to carry around all day, and while 92% of bike scheme cyclists don’t wear a helmet, 83% say the reason is due to lack of portability. Woolf’s new folding bike helmet design will let you ride to work or school safely, and then easily slip your brain-saving helmet into laptop bag or backpack.
